Venue 7 - the Methodist Church
I hand craft original narrative jewellery from found objects and vintage treasure using the traditional metal working techniques I trained in. Repurposed materials sit alongside recycled brass, printed tin, silver, steel and stones.
In an era of dwindling natural resources, I cherish the resurrected and reclaimed, often preferring them over new materials for the depth of beauty and humble charm they can convey. Found fragments have the power to evoke (memory, associations, tenderness) and this sets them apart from the mass produced, liberating them from traditional notions of value. In one off commissions, I transform customers' own tiny treasures into wearable art - breathing new life into them. In this way a pottery shard, a collection of inherited elements, or an antique coin can be transformed into a very personal piece, an amulet rich in association and significance for the wearer. My wearable assemblages celebrate the sacred at the heart of the everyday. They were selected for the 160th and 161st Autumn Open Exhibitions at the Royal West Of England Academy here in Bristol and featured in a US publication 'Behind the Brooch' (Lorena Angulo, 2014). |
